In Loving Memory of Carol Diane Rivest
December 7, 1959 – May 11, 1982
Carol Diane Rivest was my sister, a devoted mother, loving daughter, caring sister, and friend. She was funny and charming, with a big, bright smile and dimples that would light up a room. Carol took great pride in watching her son grow and was always eager to help her family.
Carol had many friends who loved her zest for life and adventurous personality. She loved horses, dogs, and all animals.
At just 22 years old, before she was able to return to school to further her education, Carol was shot and killed by her estranged boyfriend and the father of her young son.
May 11, 1982, was a shocking and tragic day for our family and Carol’s close friends.
Though decades have passed, our family continues to heal and find a way to live with our loss. Domestic violence continues to be a serious issue, and many women are abused and many lives are taken too soon.
Honoring Carol
I was blessed to have the support of my family and friends when I co-founded the Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation a 501(c) non-profit organization.
Having the annual fundraiser has given my family an outlet to celebrate Carol’s life. Welcoming family and friends to raise awareness of domestic violence has also brought our family closer together.
Through the foundation, we have supported women and children affected by domestic violence through emergency assistance, leadership programs, and educational programs that bring awareness to domestic violence.
I am very proud of the Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation. I believe Carol’s story has helped others, potentially saving lives, and has helped bring awareness to the dangers of domestic violence.
With the help of our supporters, the foundation is able to help women get the tools necessary to recognize abuse and promote self-love. My goal is to someday open a women’s shelter that teaches healthy coping skills, empowerment, and job skills, while providing safety for women, children, and even pets who sometimes get left behind.
My Sister, Carol
“Thank you, Carol, for being an amazing sister. The pride, love and guidance she gave me are unforgettable, and so is she.”
Love,
Sheila
